Envy is the deadly sin that steam from the fear that someone else has more than what you have. It is also known as “the spirit of covetousness” — being so greedy that what you have isn’t good enough, you desire to have what someone else has as well.

On a subconscious level, envy stems from a place of self-disappointment. When you constantly compare yourself to someone else and feel disappointed that you don‘t posses what someone else does — it leaves your feeling upset or frustrated.

In the age of social media that we live in now, it’s not uncommon for people to feel feelings of jealousy when their social media feed is filled with models, celebrities, people highlighting their lavish vacations, their happy relationships, and other highlights of their lives. To make matters even worse, likes and engagement are essentially worshipped and those who do have a lot of followers and views are rewarded with paid sponsorships which can leave the typical ”every-day” person thinking ”why can’t that be me?”.

Comparing people, places, and things are a natural habit. Humans are highly observational beings. The trouble comes in when we take things personally and wish to be someone we aren’t. We begin to wish to be someone we aren’t when we believe that this version if ourselves is a failure. When you compare yourself to someone else and feel that you fall short, it leaves you feeling inadequate, broken, or disappointed. You start to believe that others are much smarter than you, luckier than you, more attractive that you are, or more talented than you are which leads you to desire someone else’s money, looks, or talents instead of your own. This is why envy is one of the 7 deadly sins. The ”green eyed monster” will lead you to forget that we’re all created in our Creator’s image — meaning we’re all equal and created for our own unique purpose. We are not here to live out someone else’s purpose in life.

We have just as many hours in the day as the next person to accomplish our goals. Success isn’t a matter of luck — it’s a matter of acting on faith, being consistent, and being diligent.

“Success makes so many people hate you. I wish it wasn’t that way. It would be wonderful to enjoy success without seeing envy in the eyes of those around you.” — Marilyn Monroe

The only way to overcome Envy is with Gratitude. Gratitude is represented by Archangel Ramiel who embodies hope, compassion, and forgiveness. Gratitude defined as the quality of being thankful. It is the readiness to show appreciation for yourself and others and the desire to return kindness.
